If we fail to express the good news of the gospel to our teenagers, we will be guilty of the same moralism we see in many of the religious teachers of Jesus’ day.
What we as adults often fail to recognize is how the very teaching we believe is necessary for shaping “good” kids actually drives them away from Jesus.
Teenagers need to hear the perfect requirements of the law, and then they need to be brought to life with the message of the gospel—that those requirements have been met by Jesus.
Our challenge as parents is to teach the Proverbs without turning God’s Word into a tool to control our kids.
God knows that we are utterly helpless to keep our church camp commitments and to remake ourselves. That’s why we need Jesus!
