Dads, Daughters, and Differentiation
I needed the Lord’s help to surrender what I loved (sports) to grow into someone who could enjoy what my daughters loved (music).
In my teens and twenties, I wrestled with my need and longing to be known and loved by my parents in ways I could comprehend. With a language barrier in the home, it was a challenge just to communicate about superficial matters, never mind the deep things.
I needed the Lord’s help to surrender what I loved (sports) to grow into someone who could enjoy what my daughters loved (music).
If your eyes ever see, your ears ever hear, the sin, weakness, and failure of a teenager, it’s never an accident. It’s never an interruption. It’s always grace.
Unless I surrender my entire life, repenting of the ways and times I put myself and my desires on the throne of my life, absolutely nothing will change.
