Mentoring, Part 2

In this episode, Huey, Dorothy, and Terrence explore mentorship by expounding on both sides of the relationship. They respond to questions related to both mentors and mentees and weave in personal examples of how God used people in their lives to shape and encourage them powerfully.

Q1: How to find a mentor

Seek out those from other generations: Look for who are faithful.
Start small: Be intentional (1 hour a week) => Cumulative effect
Set expectations: DTR
Formal: Goal, Frequency, Duration. Ex: Rooted Mentorship
Informal: Casual convos, texts, meet-ups
Example: Rooted Mentorship Cohort (12 months) Group/Individual Interactions

Q2: How to be a mentee

Speak and listen graciously: Be honest, humble, caring, understanding
Be active, not passive: Don’t assume a mentor will always know what you need. Think through time together and initiate convo/request for prayer. Invite into life.
Be faithful: Complete assignments. Don’t skip out on time

Q3: How to be a mentor

Mentoring involves you but it’s not up to you
Learn as you go to grow!
There’s never a better time to mentor: invest in the life of another
