Wading into youth ministry can be overwhelming. It’s more overwhelming if you don’t have someone to lean on and learn from. The Rooted Mentorship Program was created for new youth pastors in precisely this situation.
The Rooted Mentorship Program allows you to spend 18 months alongside a small group of your peers learning from a veteran mentor who will help you develop as a youth pastor and grow in your personal walk with the Lord.. You don’t need to wade through the challenges of ministry alone. We are here for you!

About

The Rooted Mentorship program is designed to provide both small group and individual coaching for youth pastors who are in their first three years of youth ministry or youth ministers who are transitioning to gospel-centered approach.

The program is one-and-a-half years (including two months off in the summer) wherein small groups of 4-6 youth ministers are led by one mentor in both a cohort and an individual setting through a carefully crafted 15-month curriculum designed to help you grow spiritually as an individual and as a youth minister.

The comprehensive curriculum, designed by and for youth pastors, covers all facets of youth ministry from Bible teaching, relational discipleship, equipping and training volunteers, missions, retreats and crisis management.

The cost for each mentee is $1,000. This covers all 15 months of meetings and content in addition to an 18-month subscription to Rooted Reservoir.

At the end of the program, we expect you’ll be more proficient in teaching the Bible to students, you’ll feel more comfortable partnering with parents, and you’ll be better equipped to handle crisis situations among other things. Additionally, you’ll receive a Rooted Youth Ministry certification to signal that you’ve completed our mentorship Program.

Our fall program is at capacity. But, if you want to join the waiting list for our January start date, please complete the form below. The application to enroll in January will be available on our site starting October 27, 2022. Applications are due by December 15, 2022.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does Rooted choose mentors for this program?

We thoroughly vet all of the mentors who serve in the Rooted Mentorship, but two considerations stick out when it comes to mentor selection for the program. First, is a prospective mentor theologically aligned with Rooted? That is, do they agree with our Five Pillars and do they hold the same historic, Christian positions as Rooted on issues like the Trinity, the person and work of Jesus Christ, and the inspiration of Scripture? And second, does a prospective mentor have a significant amount of experience in the field of youth ministry that will allow them to invest well in younger youth pastors?

  • What considerations go into placing mentees with mentors?

Upon acceptance into the Rooted Mentorship, each mentee will complete a detailed questionnaire which asks questions about ministry experience, ministry context, and the like. Based on the answers to those questions and conversations with our ministry development team, mentees will be placed with mentors who can speak most effectively to a mentee’s context and experience.

  • What does an average month look like during the Rooted Mentorship?

In a standard month, the mentee will be on a virtual call with their mentor and the other mentees (unless geography allows for in-person meetings) in their cohort to discuss the month’s lesson. Later in the month, after the mentees have had time to think about and reflect on the earlier conversation, each mentee will have a one-on-one coaching call with their mentor to talk more in depth about what’s going on in their own life and ministry.

  • How much time will the Rooted Mentorship ask of me as a mentee?

For the average mentee, the Rooted Mentorship should require 4-6 hours per month. This frame includes prep time for meetings and the meetings themselves. Some months might require less than four hours, and some might require a bit more than six hours to get the maximum amount of return, but on average 4-6 hours per month is to be expected.

  • What can I expect to have gained from the Rooted Mentorship upon completion?

Our expectation is that after these 15 months, you’ll be more proficient in teaching the Bible to students, you’ll feel more comfortable partnering with parents, and you’ll be better equipped to handle crisis situations among other things. Additionally, you’ll receive a Rooted Youth Ministry certification to signal that you’ve completed our mentorship Program.

  • How long is the Rooted Mentorship?

The program lasts one-and-a-half years. That figure includes two months off in the summer.

  • Who can I contact about more information? How can I apply?

Our fall session is full, but the application for our January start date will be available on October 15, 2022. To join the waitlist, fill out the form above on this page.

  • How often do you start new mentoring cohorts?

Our mentorship cohorts kick off every August and January.
