Have you ever imagined what the end of the world will be like?

When I was in sixth grade, meteorologists predicted a record-breaking earthquake in my hometown of St. Louis. The media gave us the expected date and time for the potential crisis. We prepared with earthquake drills, and we discussed with our friends who was going to school the day of the “maybe earthquake.” I was one of the few whose parents decided I was going.

The morning of the predicted quake, I sat at my desk in fear, imagining this might be the end of the world.

In our passage, God gives Daniel a vision, or dream, about the time when God will come to earth a second time to judge the wicked and restore all that he created. Daniel sees distressing scenes, including monstrous beasts. But during these terrifying visions, Daniel sees something besides the creatures. He sees something beautiful…

I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:13-14)
