With mental health challenges on the rise among teenagers, youth and family ministers must often work with parents to provide support and care from the local church.
Our recent webinar on mental health in Asian American churches featured Dr. Clark Fobes, Drs. Monica Kim and Danny Kwon (co-authors of Teenagers and Mental Health), and special guest Dr. Victoria Chiu. The panel shared observations from their clinical and pastoral experience in effort to help listeners better understand the particular experiences of Asian Americans struggling with mental health—from growing up in a shame/honor culture to intergenerational experiences that influence mental health. Together, the panelists applied the good news of the finished work of Christ to the uncertainty families can feel surrounding mental health.
