Lord, my words fall short, but your goodness does not. Even in these moments that feel incomprehensible, help us to cling to your truth. I pray that the families who lost loved ones, especially children, would somehow in their darkest moments know and feel your peace and presence. Sustain them, Lord, as only you can. Comfort all of us with the reminder of your promise that one day you will restore all things and there will be no more death or tears. Amen.
Heavenly Father, we are hollow and heavy. We beg you to fill the hollow spaces left behind by those we have lost and lift the heavy weight of grief with your perfect peace, love, and hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. May the finished work of Christ on the cross be our light in the darkness of all the unfinished pain and sadness this side of Heaven. Amen.
God of All Creation, we are at a loss. Such unfathomable tragedy feels too devastating for words. Groans and tears have become our rhythm, and the darkness seems likely to swallow us up. We cannot understand realities like these. There is no comprehension. Yet there is your Presence. You are the One who death could not overcome. The One who makes a way through the bleakest of nights. We pray that You would be the Light for those who are still waiting for rescue. For those waiting to hear news. And for those whose lives have been shattered by their news. You are the only One who can bring hope, and the only One who can truly restore. Jesus, be near to those who have been impacted by this flood. Hide them safe in yourself and give them an undeniable sense of your presence with them. Help us to trust you with the horrors of this event, and remind us that you weep with us. Not one of our tears escapes your sight. Your heart breaks with ours. Help us, Defeater of Death, to believe that we will again see your goodness in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13). Amen.
We turn to you, Lord, in the face of unspeakable tragedy. You are the Living God who hears the cries of the righteous, so we ask you, God: hold our sorrow and receive our grief.
From the depths of the pit, you, Lord, invite our heart-wrenching honesty. So, we come to you with open hearts:
Hold our sorrow for these precious children and adults who are missing—lost, but still breathing. Be near to them. Give them the strength they need to hold on until they are found.
Receive our grief for the families who must identify their loved ones. Oh Jesus, have mercy on every mother and father who mourns the loss of a beloved child. Draw those who know you into deeper relationship with you—the One who carries our sorrows. And open the eyes of those who do not yet know you, that they may find eternal hope even in the midst of suffering.
Hold our sorrow for the first responders as they search for lives and navigate devastation. Strengthen them, Lord. Give them endurance, stability, and courage for what they may encounter.
Receive our grief for those awaiting news of loved ones. When anxiety overwhelms, be their peace. When grief engulfs, be their comfort. When confusion clouds their mind, be their clarity.
Hear our cries, Lord—cries of sorrow, grief, and aching love.
We do not understand all your ways, but we trust you still—the One who knows deep suffering, loss, and pain. Be near, Lord, we pray. Amen.
Heavenly Father, our hearts are heavy and broken for the tragedy that occurred in Texas. There are so many families who now face the pain of having to bury their children. Father, we are at a loss for words and we grieve over the pain and suffering of this incomprehensible situation. So many questions stir in our hearts when tragedy hits. We ask for peace that only comes from you. Father, we pray that during this time of shock and deep grief, you would surround those affected with your comfort and care. Meet the families tenderly, intimately, and supernaturally, so that they know you see them and love them. We pray that they would find their hope in you. Be their strength, their sustainer, their hope. Be near to them when they feel like they will fall apart. Be their comfort. Be their Father. May they know you weep with them in their loss. May the families know and recognize that you lost your son, Jesus, to rescue us so that you can be near us, especially in times of trouble. In your Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Father, we pray for rescue, for help, for refuge, and most of all for your mercy. We pray that the lost will be found, that everyone would be accounted for, that the damage would be minimized, and that all around the central Texas area, you would be extending your grace. We pray for the families grieving the loss of loved ones, and for the families still holding out hope that their loved ones will be found. May you be a refuge in their time of greatest need. In their mourning, lead them with truth and light, reach their hearts, and bring them into your comforting presence. Fill them with a hope and peace that goes beyond any earthly comfort, and turn every heart towards you. In the weeks ahead, give them the daily grace that only you can provide. In your name we pray, Amen.
Father God, our hearts are devastated, and our minds cannot comprehend a tragedy of such magnitude. How long, Oh Lord, will we endure the brokenness of this life and this world? Lord, we plead for you to comfort and sustain the parents, families, campers, and the nation as we grieve the precious lives lost far too soon. Guard our hearts and minds as we wrestle with impossible questions and a wide range of emotions in the coming weeks. Let not our foot be moved nor our faith be shaken. Help us find consolation and peace, trusting that those who are lost to this life are already experiencing the magnificent glory of your presence and the perfection of Heaven. By the power of your Holy Spirit, help us find our peace, rest, and hope in you. Amen.
