Asian American Roundtable: Rooted Conference Recap

In this episode, Dorothy, Justin, and Terrence recap this past October’s Rooted Conference, which took place in Dallas, TX. The roundtable primarily reflects on the Asian American pre-conference event on ministry burnout, depression, and biblical rest. You’ll also listen in to their discussion some of the other workshops and hear their thoughts on the main sessions, all taught from the book of Daniel.

  • Terrence explains why he enjoyed the conference, which was due to the anticipation leading up to it. Justin highlights the fact that many of the Asian American Steering Team members have yet to meet one another until this conference. The team discusses the beauty of the Rooted organization and gets to hear from the Rooted board members.

  • The team considers and reflects on the Asian American preconference. Dorothy considers the relationships built throughout the years and the joy of getting together for the conference. Justin considers the uniqueness of a preconference catered to the Asian-American church context.

  • Terrence stresses the importance of having Harold Kim and Jonathan Holmes encourage the attendees on topics such as burnout, depression, anxiety, rest, and the Gospel. Terrence also acknowledges that every minister and worker experiences hardship and trial, but if and when we do, it does not indicate God’s disappointment; rather, it is an opportunity to pursue Christ and persevere.   • Justin talks about his workshop, “The Eras Tour: Longevity in Ministry.” The team was encouraged by the conference theme, which was taken from the book of Daniel. “As Christians, our primary identity must be fixed on Christ, not on anything temporary.” – Terrence.
