  • The Director of Youth Formation and Ministry at Christ Episcopal Church is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, and coordination of the church’s ministry with youth (grades 6–12). This role includes overseeing weekly programs, spiritual formation, retreats, and milestone events; cultivating meaningful relationships with youth and families; and fostering a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for faith development in the Episcopal tradition. The new Director of Youth Ministry will begin in summer of 2026 in preparation for the 2026-2027 program year.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Administrative

    • Attend weekly staff meetings (Tuesday mornings) and program planning meetings (seasonally)
    • Manage communications with youth and families, including newsletters, social media, and text reminders
    • Maintain accurate attendance and records in the parish database
    • Manage the youth ministry budget in collaboration with the Associate Rector
    • Ensure compliance with all diocesan and parish policies, including Safeguarding training and background checks for staff and volunteers
    • Coordinate logistics for retreats, pilgrimages, and major youth events, including registration, transportation, lodging, payments, and supplies.
    • Oversee and schedule youth ministry interns and adult volunteers
    • Recruit, train, and meet regularly with youth interns
    • Convene monthly Youth Committee meetings

     

    Program and Formation Leadership

    • Plan and lead weekly youth formation offerings, including Sunday morning formation, Wednesday evening programs, and Sunday night Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)
    • Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to select and implement a developmentally appropriate, spiritually enriching curriculum
    • Encourage youth participation in worship, service, and parish life (as acolytes, readers, greeters, and volunteers)
    • Partner with the Associate Rector to coordinate the Confirmation process and related preparation.
    • Develop and lead milestone and “rites of passage” experiences such as the graduation from Christ’s Kids to EYC and Seniors recognition at Youth Sunday
    • Foster connections with diocesan and wider-church youth programs such as Happening, Camp McDowell, Sawyerville, and conferences
    • Collaborate with Director of Children’s MInistries to create transitions from Christ’s Kids to EYC and build programming for Club 345 (grades 3, 4, and 5)
    • Develop leadership and encourage ownership among youth participants

     

    Pastoral and Relational Ministry

    • Build authentic, caring relationships with youth and their families through personal contact and pastoral presence
    • Coordinate with clergy regarding pastoral care needs among youth and families.
    • Create a welcoming, inclusive culture in which youth feel safe to ask questions, explore faith, and be themselves
    • Be present with youth beyond scheduled programs (attending school events, games, and performances as appropriate)

     

    Professional Development

    • Participate in continuing education opportunities related to youth ministry and formation.
    • Maintain professional connections with other youth and formation leaders within the Diocese and wider church.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree 
    • Demonstrated experience in youth ministry
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with both youth and adults.
    • Familiarity with Episcopal worship, theology, and formation practices
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and lay leaders
    • Commitment to fostering a safe, welcoming, and faith-filled community for all young people
