Position Overview

Position Title: Director of Youth Ministries
Classification: Part-Time
Reports To: Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Position Summary
Bakerstown United Methodist Church seeks a passionate, faith-driven individual to serve as
Director of Youth Ministries. This part-time role is responsible for developing, leading, and growing a vibrant youth ministry program for students in grades 6 through 12. The Director will nurture the spiritual formation of middle and high school students, build strong relationships with youth and families, and cultivate a welcoming community rooted in Christian discipleship.

Core Responsibilities

Ministry Leadership
• Plan, coordinate, and lead weekly youth group meetings for middle school (grades 6–8) and
high school (grades 9–12) students
• Create and deliver age-appropriate programming that supports spiritual growth, discipleship, and Christian identity
• Develop and oversee special events
• Coordinate youth participation in Sunday worship and other congregational activities

Pastoral Care & Relationships
• Build meaningful, trust-based relationships with youth and their families
• Provide pastoral support and mentorship to students navigating the challenges of
adolescence
• Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding programming,
events, and individual student needs
• Collaborate with families to reinforce faith development at home

Volunteer Development
• Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers to assist with youth ministry programs
• Foster a healthy team culture grounded in shared faith and commitment to youth
• Ensure all volunteers complete required Safe Sanctuary training and background checks

Administration & Communication
• Manage the youth ministry calendar and coordinate logistics for all programs and events
• Communicate regularly with the congregation and parents via bulletin, newsletter, and social media
• Prepare and manage the youth ministry budget in collaboration with church leadership
• Attend Church Council meetings and report of youth ministry and activities
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and program activities

Qualifications
Required
• Active Christian faith and commitment to the United Methodist tradition
• Demonstrated experience working with middle school and/or high school youth in a church,
school, or nonprofit setting
• Strong relational skills with the ability to connect authentically with teenagers
• Excellent communication skills — verbal, written, and interpersonal
• Ability to pass a background check and complete Safe Sanctuary training
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred
• Familiarity with United Methodist doctrine, polity, and Wesleyan theology
• Experience leading mission trips, retreats, or overnight events
• Proficiency with social media platforms and basic digital communication tools

Working Conditions
This position requires flexibility, including availability on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and occasional weekends for special events and retreats. Some travel may be required for mission trips and district/conference events. The Director of Youth Ministries will work in close collaboration with pastoral staff, lay leaders, and volunteers.
