When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. … (2 Samuel 7:12-14a)

Let’s read that line again, “I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”

Forever is a long time. 

Thanks to Disney movies or fairy tales, children find the idea of forever to be magical and even romantic. However, as we get older, forever can start to feel more daunting than delightful. No student dreams of a school year that lasts forever. We don’t sit in the doctor’s office praying our appointment would never end. When we face times of sadness, we place our hope in its eventual end. After spending over 10 years working in youth ministry, Kendal currently serves as the Director of Sunday Schools at Redeemer Kansas City in Missouri where she also continues to serve in youth ministry. Originally from Memphis, Tenn. Kendal received her BA from Union University with a minor in theology. After graduation, she served two years overseas working with youth. After returning to America, she worked full-time in parachurch youth ministry before moving into local church ministry for the last decade.
