When Notre Dame football players leave their locker room to take the field, they pass by a sign that reads “Play Like a Champion Today.” Every player taps that sign as they run by, as a reminder of all it took to prepare for the game, and what it will take to win it.
Now, as lifelong Alabama fans, it pains us to speak well of the Fighting Irish, but they are on to something with this ritual reminder. If parents were to paint a similar sign and hang it over their bedroom door, what reminders might we need as we start the day with our families?
We’d like to propose a few short truths that would help you begin the day trusting the Lord:
- God is Lord and Savior over my life. He is in control of my children’s lives (Isa. 12:2, Col. 1:16-17, Eph 1:4, 2:8-9)
- Christ has justified me. I don’t have to justify myself through my kids (Rom. 5:1-2, 8-10, Titus 3:5-7).
- Being patient and kind and loving is more important than being right (Col 3:12-13, Gal 6:9)
- Children are a gift from the Lord. Enjoy them! (Ps. 127:3)
We can play the game knowing that Christ has already won the victory.
